A Birthday Campaign to Help the Victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban

Super typhoon Yolanda

3 years ago the world was shocked when  super Typhoon Haiyan known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines devastated a big part of our country. The actual death toll is still unclear, which killed at least 10,000 people in Tacloban City, Leyte alone. It was one of the most intense tropical cyclones on record, the strongest storm recorded at landfall, and the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record.

There was a widespread devastation from storm surge, especially in Tacloban City. Many buildings have been destroyed, cars piled and trees knocked down. The low-lying, eastern side of Tacloban has been washout. It has been said that 90% of the city has been destroyed. People describe the place “Apocalyptic”

Do you still remember the day Super Typhoon Yolanda hit our country? It was November 8, 2013, probably, most of us are at home, waiting for updates on what is happening in this part of our country. The next day was a very horrifying news. I can’t believe what I’m seeing on TV. The water rises from the ocean and washes away everything, there were footages of raging people, frustrated and hopeless. Breaking the gates of establishments in hope to get some food. There are dead people found everywhere and to show us how strong this typhoon was, there was even a ship that ran aground in Tacloban.

I told myself that 1 day, I’ll visit Tacloban to personally extend my help. This year, I decided to celebrate my birthday in Tacloban. Though it was 3 years ago. I believe that it’s never too late to help.

This December 12, 2016. I will visit a Barangay in Tacloban that was completely washout by Super Typhoon Yolanda. There are 2 reasons for this visit. I’m planning to donate school supplies to the children of the community and I would like to personally hear their story – on how painful it was to experience this kind of tragedy not to remind them of the pain but I believe that it would make them a bit better if they will share their suffering. I want to make them feel that there are people who are still willing listen. I believe that it will minimize the problem if you discuss it with someone. If you give your pain a voice and let other people listen. I hope that somehow I could lift weight on their shoulder.

I love to hear their stories of hope and survival. I want to know what are the things that they still need help from our government or other concerned bodies. I want to leave Tacloban having all these stories to write and let the people know that up to this date. Our fellow Taclobanon still needs our help.

Ihope you can support me to make this birthday celebration come true.  If you want to extend your help please donate to the following bank accounts and PayPal account below.
