This year I, went back to one of my favorite cities in the world–Bangkok–to celebrate my birthday. I was here last year to celebrate my birthday at a nice hostel in Sukhumvit area, but this time, I leveled up. I decided to celebrate my day at one of the best hotels in the city of Angel–Mandarin Hotel.
Mandarin Hotel was established in 1965 and officially opened in 1968. Since then, Mandarin Hotel has earned an unsurpassed recognition as a luxury hotel, impressing guests from the world over with its charm and hospitality for 48 years and counting. The hotel has undergone a major renovation in 2012 which was completed in 2013. The new look complemented by the decors surprises everyone. The hotel is catching up with new hotels in Bangkok. The best part, though, is that it keeps the Thai hospitality which Mandarin is known for.
The hotel is located on Rama IV Road which is close to the shopping area and nightlife. A few minutes of walking will take you to the MRT Sam Yan Station. For me, this is perfect. An ideal hotel in Bangkok should be near any train station for you to easily move and travel from one place to another.
The moment I stepped into the hotel, I felt the classiness exuded by the lobby. The chandelier made the bright white lights dance across the luxurious lobby. The creamy white floor shines as well like a polished glass. There are various elegant looking chairs and flowers in a huge vase. Everything looks clean. The wall is painted white with accents of wood, cream, and black.
When I entered my deluxe room, I did my usual routine: Check and inspect the room for five whole minutes. I started with the restroom. It is impossible not to notice their Japanese inspired toilet (or simply called “washlet”). I can’t remember if I’ve been to any hotel with a washlet, but this toilet is really cool. There are buttons corresponding to cleaning features. You can control the water pressure, nozzle position and dry. I’m really impressed.
As I slowly opened the automatic window curtain and the natural light shone through, I loved what I was seeing. The entire wall is painted white. It looks neat and clean. The room also features a king size bed. I admiringly rubbed my fingers along the mattress, pressed the pillows and felt the irresistibly soft comforter.
Also, the 30 sqm modern deluxe room is equipped with a flat-screen TV, strong Wi-fi internet connection, tea and coffee making facilities.
While I’m watching a movie, I was surprised that someone was knocking on my door and when I slowly opened it, two staffs of the hotel were singing Happy Birthday. I was really touched by this gesture which made me teary-eyed. I’m used to celebrating my day with my friends in Manila, but celebrating it alone inside my room was a bit unusual. So, seeing someone who greets, sings and brings me a cake on my birthday was highly appreciated.
If you are looking for a place to eat, you can have buffet lunch at Krua Luang Restaurant, also inside Mandarin Hotel, which serves Thai and International cuisine. The ambiance is great for your dining experience.I was amazed by the wide variety of foods from Asia and Europe. Dishes are freshly prepared. The personnel was attentive to our needs. This is something I really look forward to when I go back to Mandarin Hotel. I can say that the food is really delicious even though I was sick that time. I haven’t tasted everything, but all the food I got were really delicious.
A wide range of facilities to complete your stay is also available here at Mandarin Hotel. They have a fully-equipped fitness center with state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines. It’s the perfect place to burn those calories after enjoying the food in Bangkok. The fitness center is Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
They have a wide outdoor swimming pool where you can swim or relax. Also, there’s a bar serving light snacks and refreshing drinks. The pool is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Another reason why I would love to go back is to experience Thai Massage at their very own Let’s Relax Spa. It was unfortunate that I was sick that time and the Doctor said it was better not to have a massage that day. The spa looks really relaxing and rejuvenating. The decorations look calm and classy. Let’s Relax Spa is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
So, if you’re planning your next vacation here in Bangkok, choose the hotel that will give you modern luxury experience, great Thai hospitality, and affordable room rates. Choose Mandarin hotel and don’t miss out on their ongoing promotions to save more.
