This time, I’m sharing my budget-friendly secrets to exploring this incredible city – including where to stay for the best value and what to do to maximize your experience without spending too much. For me, Kuala Lumpur remains a Southeast Asian gem, that can offer a quality travel experience on a budget.

Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur?

  • Merdeka Square: Head to this historical square, a significant site in Malaysia’s independence. Admire the colonial-era architecture and soak in the historical atmosphere. Nearby, you can also see the Sultan Abdul Samad Building with its distinctive clock tower.
  • PNB 118: Marvel at the exterior of this towering skyscraper, currently one of the tallest buildings in the world. Its impressive architecture dominates the KL skyline.
  • Petronas Twin Towers: No trip to KL is complete without seeing these iconic towers! Take photos from the ground or visit the skybridge or observation deck for breathtaking views (ticketed).
  • Saloma Link Bridge: As evening approaches, stroll across this pedestrian bridge, beautifully illuminated with colorful lights. It’s especially stunning at night.

  • Petaling Street: Immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown. Explore the vibrant street market, browse the stalls, and sample delicious Chinese-Malaysian cuisine.
  • Lorong Panggung (Kwai Chai Hong): Discover this charming hidden alley in Chinatown, known for its restored historical buildings, street art, and trendy cafes. It’s a great spot for photos and a more relaxed vibe.
  • Bukit Bintang: In the evening, head to Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant shopping and entertainment district. Explore the malls, enjoy the street performers, and experience the city’s nightlife.
