People who have never been to Singapore always equate it with the word expensive. But first-timers, like me, will be surprised to know that an affordable hostel can be found right at the heart of the country.
5footway.inn PBQ is located at Boat Quay, a historical quay situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River on its southern bank. The facade of the hostel is facing the river with the view of the Marina Bay Sands, Parliament House and the Elgin Bridge which boasts of stunning lights that make the night colorful.

How to get to 5footway.inn Project Boat Quay from Changi International Airport
The cheapest way to reach the hostel from the airport is taking the train.
- Proceed to Changi Airport MRT and take the East West line heading toward Tanah Merah MRT (EW4).
- Alight at Tanah Merah MRT (EW4). Proceed toward platform B (East West line) and board the train going to Joo Koon MRT.
- Alight at Outram MRT (EW16) and board the purple Northeast line toward Punggol MRT.
- Finally, alight at Clarke Quay MRT (NE5).
- At the station, look for EXIT F, then turn right and walk along the Singapore River. You will see 5footway.inn to your right three minutes later.
- The journey will take approximately 40 minutes.
- Single trip MRT ticket costs $2.10.
Outside 5footwayinn Project Boat Quay
As I walked toward the hostel, I can’t help but be amazed at how organized, clean and beautiful Singapore is. Boat Quay is lively. Bars and restaurants sit along the river side. This the perfect place to party and hang out with your friends.
5footway.inn PBQ is one of the most creative hostels I ever visited. The property is not that big, but they managed to design the hostel tastefully. Usually, when we enter a hostel, we will be greeted by a receptionist. But, as I opened the door, I saw stairs leading to a different floor. The hostel is like a maze and I love it that way.
I love the ambiance of their reception lounge. It’s bright, well-ventilated, and cozy. Checking in was fast and easy. They also give free SIM cards to all guests. There are Mac computers available at the lounge. The entire area has an excellent Wifi signal. The reception is available 24-hrs, and I feel safe since the entire property is equipped with CCTVs.

I got a standard double private room with shared bathroom. The air-conditioned room is clean, basic, and simple. I got nice and comfortable pillows and bed. It has a safety deposit box, a small table, and Wifi connection. Probably the best thing about the room is the quality of sleep you’ll get. It was quiet all throughout my stay.
The shower and toilet are near the room. Although it’s shared, it’s clean all the time. There are 5 available hot and cold shower rooms on my floor. Liquid soap and shampoo are available too.
Aside from private room, the hostel offers standard and loft type dorm room.

Another thing I love about 5footway.inn PBQ is their strategic location. Most tourist spots are walking distance from the hostel. I would usually start my day walking to Chinatown to look for a good yet reasonably-priced food, then stride toward Merlion Park to chill out in the afternoon. After that, I’d go to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay to see some spectacular light show.
Along the way back to the hostel, I stroll on Clark Quay to watch some street performance or to simply adore the city lights. All of these and more are walking distance from the hostel.
If ever I will go back to Singapore, I’ll stay at 5footway.inn PBQ again. It’s a good example of a real-value-for-your-money accommodation in Singapore. It has a good price, location, security, and complimentary breakfast. And, yes, it’s clean.

What a great alternative to the pricey hotels of Singapore. Love some of those amenities, (hello 24/7 coffee!) and the location is really ideal. It is always nice to find these hostel gems in these expensive cities. We’ll be moving to Asia soon, so finding alternative accommodations is key for our future travel planning!

What a gorgeous place. When we visited Singapore we were very early in our travels (actually, Singapore was the first country we visited on our around the world trip) so we weren’t yet aware how to find affordable accommodation. The view is excellent as well, which is a nice bonus.
Looks like an awesome place. I love hotels/hostels whatever with views over the city. And it’s also very nice that you can hear and enjoy some live music.
Good location, good price, good breakfast! What could be better?! I haven’t been to Singapore yet but these are the things I look for in a place I’m staying. Not to mention a solid wifi signal. I love being able to walk out and have places to see and explore within walking distance. It sounds like Chinatown would be a good place to start!
